Finally! Yes, I’m really happy to get see how the brand new Thundercats reboot will fair against the old reruns that bring back childhood memories during the days of Toonami. Tonight, I won’t be able to watch the premiere, as I’m finishing up this week’s comic, but there definitely will be a spot of time set aside to watch it with no interruptions whatsoever. Hopefully there are others that share my excitement. Maybe I’ll post my thoughts later?
If you haven’t heard about the reboot, then you have now. Check out the trailer below.
I’ve now finished work for the day to return home and start on this week’s comic. But before I start, I noticed a surprising piece of information floating around the internet.
It seems that as of August 12th, Nintendo will be dropping the price for the 3DS. The handheld system, which is less than a year old, will be coming down to $169.99 from it’s original launch price of $249.99. They’ve made the drop as an incentive for more people to go out and grab themselves a 3DS. Here’s what Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime had to say:
“For anyone who was on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS, this is a huge motivation to buy now.” Going on to add “We are giving shoppers every incentive to pick up a Nintendo 3DS, from an amazing new price to a rapid-fire succession of great games.” Read full post »
Well here we are again. I have once again failed to keep up with my weekly duty. I’ll be putting out today’s comic tomorrow and hope that I can stop this madness.
Bioware has put out a new trailer to catch people’s attention and raise interest in pre-orders for its new MMO. The trailer gives each of the eight classes a short introduction and shows them kicking ass in their own class specific way. Each class gives a nice one liner that sums up what their class is all about. Personally, I’m really excited for the Jedi Knight and Bounty Hunter. Still, no release date as this time, but it’s planned for release later this year. That’s enough time for me to take care of some upgrades. I hope. Pre-orders are available now. Check out the trailer below.
Recently, Dice studio head Patrick Bach spoke about transferring Battlefield 3 onto consoles. Bach has said that the biggest difference between the PC and consoles version are shown in the multiplayer, taking the amount of players down from 64 on the PC to just 24 on consoles. “The biggest difference between the PC and console version of Battlefield 3 is that we have 64 players on PC and 24 players maximum on console,” Bach said. “The rest is more or less the same: we use the same engine, the same technology, the same animation system, the same lighting system. Our aim is to give the player the exact same experience and not try to dumb down the console version.”
“If you want the same quality of game, I would say it’s really, really hard. We tried to get more players in [to the console version] but then you need to scale down all the graphics, scale down all the destructibility, and sometimes you need to scale down all the map sizes. Everything is a compromise on: where do you cut?”
“You could argue that other games do [fewer] players as well. There are games that do less, and there are games that do more. We don’t see games that have more players as a better experience, so having more players per se doesn’t automatically give you a better experience.”
Bach also talked about how the maps had to be slightly decreased from the PC versions to preserve performance and action. “[We've] tried to compact them slightly to keep the action up. If you compare it to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the maps weren’t really small on console. We actually had huge maps even for console. We have the same kind of angle on it right now [in Battlefield 3].”
“We want to create the same experience for PC as for consoles,”
One of my favorite franchises on the Xbox 360, Mass Effect 3 will have even more weight to guarantee my purchase. Bioware producer Casey Hudson has been quoted as saying that the decisions made in Mass Effect 3 will have a bigger impact on the story than in any of the previous Mass Effect games.
“With the first one, we’re kind of launching everything, and we’re kind of throwing up these huge threads to the later stories,” said Casey Hudson “And then with the second one, we’re kind of inbetween. It’s actually the toughest one to make, because it has to work with previous stuff and still tie-in with other stuff a little bit later.Read full post »
Marvel has revealed their “Avengers Assemble” Comic-Con campaign complete with all of the heroes that will complete the group. They are all shown wearing the costumes and looks that will be in the movie. There is Mark Ruffalo as The Incredible Hulk, Chis Hemsworth as Thor, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as SHIELD Operative Maria Hill, Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and finally Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow!!!!!
Fury’s art features Agent Caulson, and our first look at Maria Hill in action. There seems to be our first look at the QuinnJet or the S.H.E.I.L.D. Helicarrier shown in a few of these pieces. The pieces assemble when put side by side to show all of the avengers together. I don’t know about you, but these look to me as if they were ripped straight from the comics. Analyze the image for yourself! Read full post »
A ton of news (well maybe not a ton) about the next Zelda game has hit today and this past weekend. First off, Nintendo spokesman, Bill Trinen, gave away some interesting bits of info over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. Looks like the new installment will change things up a bit letting players upgrade their items by collecting rupees and artifacts throughout the game. A couple of upgradable items mentioned were Link’s shield and flying beetle. Read full post »
After just seeing the new Captain America movie (which I loved), I felt like talking about movies and I found the perfect one. Just like the Green Lantern parodied trailer that Disney released a while back, they decided to parody another superhero. This time they’ve switched over to Marvel’s side with Captain America. As the new Captain America: The First Avenger movie hits theaters today, we get a new poster for the new movie, The Muppets. It’s right on time for attendees of San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Featuring Sam the Eagle in the Capn’s suit and legendary shield, this poster definitely shows off the kind of humor that we love from the muppets. You’ll be able to catch The Muppets this fall on November 23rd. Take a look below.
It seems that Micheal Jordan will again be the cover athlete of 2K Sports’ NBA 2K12, but this time there is a catch. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson will be joining him this time around, both being on a limited edition copy of the game which will be only available for the first printing of the game.
This only leaves it up to the imagination to wonder what kind of modes will be including these two first ballot hall of famers. Will they each get there own challenge mode like MJ did in 2k11? Will it be something entirely different this time around? Will there be an new age version of the old One on One arcade series that featured Bird? How hard will it be to get a Bird or Magic cover?

Kurtis has said a lot about the upcoming Gotham City Impostors game. I will have to say that a FPS in the Batman universe is pretty enticing to me and this video puts some icing on the cake. Check out the new video below and share your thoughts. Does a game not primarily about Batman intrigue you??
Oh and on a side note, the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man was excellent. Just really was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I cannot wait for more up until its release date next year!
GoldenEye Reloaded, an HD update of the Wii FPS released earlier this year is coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, publisher Activision has announced. GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is built on a totally new engine by developer Eurocom, which worked on the original. It’s due to be released this fall.
Reloaded will offer “HD visuals and realistic environments running at 60-frames per second,” Activision says. Not only will it remake the Wii game’s campaign with updated visuals, it’ll introduce a new ‘Mi6 Ops Missions’ mode that will be set on new maps. The Mi6 Missions will challenge players to complete various assault, elimination, stealth and defense objectives.
Will this be the GoldenEye remake we have been waiting for?
On the multiplayer front, Reloaded will support GoldenEye’s four-player split-screen multiplayer, plus 16-player online multiplayer with more maps, weapons, characters and game modes than any other Bond game. PlayStation Move support will be included on the PlayStation 3, which will likely mimic the way the game was originally played on Wii.
Will this be the closest we’ll get to a modern remake of Rare’s N64 classic GoldenEye 007? Rare has made clear that the game’s “locked in a no-man’s land” due to licensing issues, split between Nintendo, Microsoft, Activision, and others. The game is actually based upon the original James Bond movie, though it clearly took a few pointers from Rare’s game and I bet doesn’t mind being compared to it. Rare itself did develop an Xbox Live Arcade port of the original N64 GoldenEye 007 at one point, a lot like the remake of Perfect Dark, but never could regain the total rights to release it. Hopefully this version will be a masterpiece of its own.
The trailer for next summer’s Spider-Man reboot has hit the internet today. I am so pumped about it now. It has officially just made my day. I’m loving everything about it right now. Director Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer) has definitely taken the chance to take this into a different direction than the past three films. This is an early release, but it looks really good so far. If this is what the movie looks like right now, I can’t wait to see what the finished film will look like. I want to see more already. It’s still very early to pick at some of the details in the trailer, but I’m sure Sony wanted it to be ready for Comic-Con this weekend. A little bit of a Mirror’s Edge moment at the end. Fans of that game should appreciate it. I know I did. Take a quick look for yourselves.
Well, it looks like we won’t be seeing The Darkness 2 this October like we thought we would. 2K games has announced that the game will be delayed and has given its new release dates for both consoles and PC. The new dates we can expect to see Jackie Estacado kicking ass will be February 7th and 10th of next year for North America and Europe.
But hey, don’t let that get you down people. If you’re attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, then you’ll have a chance at playing the demo. That’s right, The Darkness 2 will be playable at the Top Cow booth (#2629) for all to enjoy this weekend. Plus I agree with many of you out there, that it’s just one less game that you’ll have to get this fall. This year’s fall game lineup is so loaded with heavy hitters like Batman: Arkham City, Uncharted 3, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, I think that we’ll be able to handle waiting a few months.
AMD, the supplier of graphics hardware for the Xbox 360 and PC’s has claimed that the Xbox 360′s successor will be capable of producing the same visual effects that are seen in movies like James Cameron’s Avatar, examiner.com reports via the August issue of Official Xbox Magazine US.
Being able to render the kind of detail that Avatar had into a console within a year or two time frame sounds impossible, but AMD isn’t backing down from its claim that the next Xbox will launch with this within reach. AMD did not confirm it was working on the next Xbox but, Neal Robison, Director of ISV Relationships at AMD has said that the consumer will have a lot to be excited for. AI and physics capabilities of the next generation should allow for every NPC in a open world game to be an individual character with a unique personality. This would mean NPCs would react to scenarios in different ways each time.
Will this be the next leap in graphics?
This is not the first time that a console had these high expectations upon release. The year leading up to the PS3 was filled with immense pre rendered screens that people thought were gameplay videos and the PlayStation 2 was at first thought to have the capabilities to display graphics equivalent to Toy Story 2. We will just have to wait and see in the next couple years when the next generation of consoles show there face.
