Voltron: The Game

Just before Comic-Con, THQ and Behaviour Interactive have revealed it’s upcoming Voltron game and some of the details surrounding it. Planned as an action adventure game, Voltron: Defender of the Universe will be released on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this October.

Voltron, is an anime series starring a giant robot that originally aired in the ’80s. The full robot is actually made up of five mechanical lion vehicles piloted by a group known as the Voltron Force. The young pilots combine their forces to create the mighty Voltron, they defend the universe from the evil King Zarkon of Planet Doom.

Clips from the animated series will be throughout the game and will recreate some of the big moments from the show that fans should recognize. The game seems to be using the same art style as the original cartoons. Also, up to five players can team up as the Voltron Force online, with two players being able to cooperate offline, as well as your standard single player. Each Lion will have its own strengths, resistances, and elemental attacks. When formed as Voltron, players will have to work together to attack their foes.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe will be cost you $10 upon release. Look for it October 25 on PlayStation Network, followed by Xbox Live Arcade on the 26th.

Dark Knight Rises and Spider-Man Reboot First Look!

First off, I told you that the first glimpse we would have of Dark Knight Rises would be in front of the last chapter of the Harry Potter series, and it was. As expected, it didn’t show much, but it sure showed some exciting glimpses. Even with a year to go, I am still so ecstatic about the finale of this comic book masterpiece of a trilogy. You get your first look at Tom Hardy as Bane and a some great lines from one of my favorite actors, Gary Oldman. Check it out!

To stay along the lines of comics and movies. Entertainment Weekly has an upcoming issue coming out with a first glimpse of the new Spider-Man film reboot titled “The Amazing Spider-Man” featuring Andrew Garfield as title character Peter Parker. The pictures also include Aunt May (Sally Field), Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen), Gwen Stacy(Emma Stone), and Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) who everyone knows will transform into the main villain The Lizard. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Pre-order Is The Bomb

Many fans of the Halo series are extremely excited for the release of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary later this fall. I’m sure they want to brush up on their classic Halo skills in preparation for the updated version of the game that started it all. But will that be enough? Maybe a little something extra is in order. A pre-order, to be more exact. I know, these days a lot of people out there don’t really have a need or desire to pre-order, but this could be a nice exception to the matter.

For those that choose to pre-order Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, they will receive an exclusive “Grunt Funeral” skull. Having the ability to make Grunts explode when they die can definitely be useful in the game, but it’s also incredibly entertaining to watch. I find that to be a decent enough reason to slap down 5 dollars to save yourself a copy. But if that’s just not enough for you to consider it, then they have yet another gift up their sleeve. Any customers who pre-order will also receive the Master Chief Avatar Armor to instantly make their avatar almost as epic as Master Chief. Almost.

Battleblock Theater Throws A New Video At You

After a relatively long day of work, all I needed was a peek at this new video from The Behemoth to crack a smile. The creators behind Castle Crashers have a new video for the newest fun filled game, Battleblock Theater. Check out the post I did a while back for the video of the game’s hilarious opening. Featuring prisoner  #10321 this time around, it’s focusing a little on the mechanics of throwing your fellow prisoners. Whether you’re throwing a friend into a portal to help or into saws and “shape-people” eating monsters, there are certain ways to get just the right distance. Take a look see below.

One Year Is Not Enough

One year has past. What have we learned here at PixelDrunk[s]? We learned what making a website was all about and put some hard work in. Is it enough? No. We are going to make sure that this year we will have more posts, more comics, more features, and much more laughs. As video games change for the better so shall we. Got TONS of games this year and TONS of gadgets, movies, and TV. I am super excited about this coming year and what the industry and pixeldrunks.com has in store.

I just finished Infamous 2 the other day and will have my opinions on the game sometime soon. I would like to say that I did love it and it just shows how you can make a sequel actually better than its predecessor. It was a great start to all the new games coming in a couple months.

The last thing I want to talk about is feedback. We here at PixelDrunk[s] are very open to what you want to see or read about on the site. So don’t be afraid to put some ideas or subject matter that you would like to see more of in the comments section and we will read it open minded, remember we are gamers just like you.

Oh and PS. Redbox has games for $2.00 a night and I think its one hell of a deal. Just the perfect way of playing a game that you wanna play but don’t want to invest the money to own it. Go to Redbox.com to see whats in a Redbox near you.

A Whole Year…Wow

Well I must give an explanation for last week. I didn’t post up a comic and neither Baron or I wrote anything for the blog. I must apologize for not giving any notice, but it just so happened to be our official 1 year anniversary since creating PixelDrunk[s]. We both took somewhat of a break, minus the part where we had to go do our day jobs. With all that said and done. IT’S A CELEBRATION!

Since the week began, I’m feeling like we’re starting our second year off right. I plan to make a few more changes/additions to the site while also trying harder to crank out these comics. I’ll need a lot of work on that second part. I didn’t have any kind of clue of what PD would be like a year later, but now I’m happy where we’re at now and hope we’ll get even better. We have to take this to the next level!

PSN and Zombies Oh My!

There is news today that Sony Entertainment is going to be investing a good 20 million into PSN exclusives. This is good news for the PlayStation brand since it already seems to own the most exclusives out of all three of the systems, with the Wii right next to it. The money will also go to “Pub Fund”, a program that was first announced at the Game Developers Conference in 2009. The program provides indie developers funds to create exclusive titles for PlayStation Network.

Official Trailer For Holmes’ Next Adventure

Ooh this week is pretty exciting. The final chapter in the Harry Potter films comes to a close, and in front of that, it’s rumored that the teaser for The Dark Knight Rises will be shown. To my surprise, while stumbling around the interwebs, I came across the new trailer for the Sherlock Holmes sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

This trailer looks really exciting itself. The pace is really high and it takes us for a short but wild ride. We get to see the major roles right off the bat. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude law of course reprise their roles as Holmes and Watson. Professor Moriarty finally gets a face added to the name. Here we see Jared Harris ( Mad Men, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as the mysterious professor. But, we’re now introduced to the new character “Sim”, played by Noomi Rapace (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo films). There’s a lot of action going on but still not a whole lot of information on the story is revealed. The only main plot point that we already know is that Holmes plans to bring down Professor Moriarty. Take a look below.

Dark Knight Rises Premiering This Weekend!!??

There have been some rumors around the web that Warner Bros. would finally debut a Dark Knight Rises teaser trailer with the final chapter of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 which release this weekend. It seems that this seemingly has been confirmed.

There are many reports that a “trustworthy source” has stated that a teaser and the poster pictured above for Christopher Nolan’s third and final Batman film will show up with the last Potter adventure. The running time on the teaser has even been announced at one minute and 33 seconds. It’ll play in both 2D theaters and IMAX 3D. Warner Bros. has yet to confirm anything, but all will find out this weekend if checking in for the final Harry Potter chapter if the final Dark Knight will be there to astonish.

New Riddler Focused Trailer for Arkham City

As we all should know by now, Riddler has taken up a much bigger role this time around. Just like Jigsaw from the Saw series, he’s holding hostages in various deathtraps. If you ask me, he’s way worse than Jigsaw. Putting innocent people’s lives on the line is how Riddler plans to best Batman. Check out the new trailer below.

Celebrate the Conclusion of Harry Potter at the Harry Potter Tribute Exhibition

The final magic-filled film is almost here. On July 15th, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II will be released in the US, completing the story that the books have already finished 4 years ago. I’ve been hearing about this special exhibition from a friend of mine and I was pretty interested in it myself. In honor of the hugely successful story of witches and wizards, Nucleus Art Gallery has put together the Harry Potter Tribute Exhibition. The exhibition features numerous works from over 50 artists that share a common love for all things Harry Potter. Unfortunately, I can’t attend since I’ve already taken a trip to LA very recently, but if you’re in the area, I suggest you head on over there before it ends on August 1st.

Over 10 min of Deus Ex: Human Revolution? Count Me In!

There isn’t too much to say… IGN.com just put out a video with over 10 min of gameplay. It shows how everything works from stealth to the inventory system. This has been the game I have been waiting for this year, so enough with the talking and lets get to the watching!

Wow. Just Wow. Between this and getting my puppy Kingsley tomorrow has made me so excited. This game cant come out any sooner.

PS4 Coming In 2012??

Apparently a Taiwanese manufacturer has claimed that PlayStation 4 is on track for release in 2012 featuring a Kinect like “body movement-based control”.

It was also indicated that the manufacturing will fall on Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, the companies that made the PS3, with at least 20 million units planned to ship some time in 2012.

I’m not totally convinced by this, partly because it doesn’t match up with Sony’s much-publicized ten-year strategy for the PlayStation 3, and because Sony exec Jack Tretton has been vocal about how they are un fathomed by the Kinect and Wii U. A PS3 successor would be more than a little premature with this given information.

Sony has taken some leaps before and maybe all the success of the competitors motion devices has gone to their heads. Are we ready for a new PlayStation console??? Do we want more motion control??? I’ll have to wait and see before I have an answer.

Happy Fourth!

Kurtis here. Just wanted to say everyone have a happy Fourth of July. Hope everyone is enjoying themselves at a barbecue or just hanging out. If you’re not American and do not celebrate today’s holiday, then I’m sorry this may leave you out.

Since today is such an American holiday, I think this is the best way to celebrate. It’s been well over ten years since his last action movie, but Jean-Claude Van Damme is back! I know that you’re thinking “How is this the best way to celebrate July 4th?”. The answer is simple. He played Guile in the Street Fighter movie. That’s all I need.

Anyway, his new film Assassination Games will be coming out this month in a limited US release. It’s been a little while since his last film JCVD, which was a bit more personal to Van Damme. I liked the film since it was a huge change for him. This time around, Van Damme plays a veteran assassin whose target is also wanted for revenge by another assasin played by Scott Adkins (Bourne Ultimatum, Wolverine). The trailer doesn’t really help it, but if I’m able to see it, I’ll definitely go. You can see Assassination Games at the end of this month on July 29 in select theaters. Watch the trailer below.

 

Bioshock Infinite: New Gameplay

I just watched that Mission: Impossible trailer that Kurtis put up and man I’m wicked excited to watch that! Tom Cruise, as crazy as he is, always makes some mean movies. Plus I am a HUGE Lost fan, therefor making me a big fan of J.J. Abrams work.

In other news, IGN.com put up some new gameplay footage of next years Bioshock: Infinite. I just can’t get enough of this game. Everything from the setting to crusing around in the sky on rails! Just the perfect kinda game. Check it out!

On a side note: I really want to get Infamous 2, especially after being a really really big fan of the first one and its story. I have played the demo endlessly on PSN but alas I have a new puppy on the way and a lot of money in speeding tickets. Cops be trying to catch me riding dirrty these days so Infamous 2 will have to wait. Tisk Tisk Tisk.
