If you are a fan of Blade Runner than you know that the sequel has been in the works for some time now. Everyone has been skeptical about who would end up with it and if it could even be close to the classic and to me, best science fiction movie. Well as of yesterday a director was chosen and that director was none other than the original’s director, Ridley Scott!
Yes, the man who once said that sci-fi is as dead as westerns has caught the sci-fi bug once again. Deadline reports that Ridley Scott is returning to direct “another installment” of Blade Runner after he finishes working on the potential-Alien-prequel Prometheus for Fox. Scott has fully signed on to direct and produce, and is working with Alcon Entertainment to develop.
Alcon Entertainment’s producer Andrew Kosove, the man responsible for getting Blade Runner’s rights and convincing Scott to join the project had this to say about it.
“Over the course of one meeting, we hashed out how a new film would look, how it could avoid seeming too similar to the many movies that have since paid homage to the original, and how different the new film should be from the original itself. We eventually decided it should stand as separately as possible.”
“Everything Ridley does as a filmmaker is fresh,” Kosove said. “I believe he sees an opportunity to create something that’s wholly original from the first ‘Blade Runner.’ ”
I am super pumped for this, we will have to see how this developes after Scott is done with ‘Prometheus’, which is a potential prequel to ‘Alien’. The movie industry looks like its in for a real treat!
Baron. Out.
